This timelapse movie shows a view from the top of Roque de los Muchachos onto the Canary Islands La Gomera and Tenerife. The milkyway hovers over them.

Description

This timelapse movie shows a great view from the top of Roque de los Muchachos in the direction of the both canary islands La Gomera and Tenerife. After sundawn the darkness quickly entered and you can see not only an uncountable number of stars, but also the milkyway. It seems to hover very slowly above the islands. Even if the both islands are quite bright enlightened, the sky is very dark. This is because there are laws on La Palma, which ensure that light pollution is kept as minimal as possible, to ensure best conditions for the astronomers working in the observatory. When the sun rises again, there seems to be a short moment in which the earth begins to glow.. and just a minute later the sun rises exactly behind the peak of Tenerife's Teide.
